Meditation has been a lifesaver for me! I resonated with so many points you made here. I remember thinking meditation was an easy, relaxing practice.

Boy was I wrong! It's so difficult to focus on the breath when your mind is going in a million different directions.

I love the idea of not having a specific goal when meditating. I also was pretty competitive at first, trying to meditate for as long or as many days as possible, ticking off the meditation box on my to-do list.

The best way to meditate is to let go of any expectation and just take time to check in with yourself, letting the thoughts ebb and flow without stressing about it.
