This is exactly what I struggled with because of what you noted about creativity. I avoided writing for years, thinking it was just a hobby, which made it unimportant compared with going to college and finding a job.

The way our creativity is stifled, especially by high school, is truly unfortunate. I wonder how many potential writers, painters, and musicians we've lost due to the focus on building careers rather than feeding our souls.
